300 Gay Men
A downloadable game
300 Gay Men is a romantic, badass, action tabletop roleplaying game about the historical Sacred Band of Thebes.
In the fourth century BC, in ancient Greece, The Sacred Band of Thebes was an elite unit comprised of 150 homosexual male couples, totaling 300 men.
This experimental unit was created from the idea that love could be weaponized, creating soldiers that not only fought for their homeland but for their lover next to them. The result was an undefeated army that became the fulcrum in the power struggle between the mighty Athens and the brutal Sparta.
In 300 Gay Men you get to tell your own story about these legendary heroes and experience their fate. Taking part in daring stealth missions behind enemy lines and epic battles against impossible odds - in a world where gods and monsters were still real.
Each player controls one of the army’s couples, which means they have two characters instead of the usual one.
To simulate the legendary feats of ancient Greek heroes the games uses a special narrative dice system.
This prototype was my examination project, created over 8 weeks as part of the game design program at Folkhögskolan Skurup och Fridhem i Malmö by me, Emanuel Perpåls.
It's heavily inspired by the roleplaying game Genesys by Fantasy Flight Games, from which a lot of assets are temporarily borrowed.
The art is created by Eric Spånberg.
